Janashakthi Life, a leading name in the insurance industry and a subsidiary of JXG (Janashakthi Group), recently concluded a community-focused Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative led by its Life Operations team, extending support to students of Maho / Bakmeewewa Primary School, a rural interior school impacted by the Ditwah Cyclone.
The initiative forms part of Janashakthi Life’s broader commitment to inclusive development and equitable access to education, particularly in underserved communities. Conducted in the aftermath of the cyclone, the project was designed to address the immediate educational needs of students, helping them resume learning in a more supportive and enabling environment.
As part of the initiative, Janashakthi Life donated books, school bags, stationery items and a multimedia projector, strengthening both student access to learning materials and the school’s overall classroom resources.
Commenting on the initiative, Ravi Liyanage, Director and Chief Executive Officer of Janashakthi Insurance PLC, said, “At Janashakthi Life, our responsibility extends beyond financial protection to creating meaningful impact within the communities we serve. Supporting education, especially in times of adversity, is an investment in the future. This initiative reflects our belief that recovery must be inclusive and that no child should be left behind due to circumstances beyond their control.”
The project was initiated by the Life Operations team and supported by colleagues across multiple departments, demonstrating strong cross-functional collaboration and a shared commitment to social responsibility.
Speaking on the ground-level impact of the initiative, Fathima Ahmeer, Assistant General Manager – Life Operations, noted, “This project was driven by a genuine desire to respond meaningfully to the needs of these students following the cyclone. The support we provided was carefully selected to enhance day-to-day learning while restoring a sense of normalcy for both students and teachers. The collective effort from across the organisation made this initiative truly impactful.”
Through initiatives such as this, Janashakthi Life continues to reinforce its role as a responsible corporate citizen, embedding community development into its operations while contributing positively to education and long-term social wellbeing.
