இந்தியாவின் UPI என்பது, மொபைல் செயலி (App) மூலம் உடனடியாகவும் பாதுகாப்பாகவும் பணம் செலுத்த உதவும் ஒரு அமைப்பாகும். மாதத்திற்கு 20 பில்லியனுக்கும் அதிகமான நிதிப் பரிவர்த்தனைகளை மேற்கொள்ளும் இது, உலகின் மிக முன்னேறிய டிஜிட்டல் கட்டண முறைகளில் ஒன்றாகக் கருதப்படுகிறது. இந்தியா முழுவதும் 700 மில்லியனுக்கும் அதிகமான இடங்களில் பயன்படுத்தப்படும் இந்த அமைப்பு, அதன் நெகிழ்வுத்தன்மை காரணமாக, இலங்கையின் LankaQR வலையமைப்பு உள்ளிட்ட பிற சர்வதேச கட்டண முறைகளுடன் மிக எளிதாக இணைக்கப்படும் திறன் கொண்டது.
இலங்கைக்கு அதிகளவில் சுற்றுலாப் பயணிகள் வருகை தரும் நாடு இந்தியாவாகும். 2024 ஆம் ஆண்டில் 416,000 இந்திய சுற்றுலாப் பயணிகள் வருகை தந்திருந்த நிலையில், 2025 ஆம் ஆண்டில் இந்த எண்ணிக்கை 531,000 ஆக அதிகரித்துள்ளது. ஆண்டுதோறும் இவ்வாறு சுற்றுலாப் பயணிகளின் வருகை அதிகரித்து வருவதால், எளிதாகவும் நம்பகத்தன்மையுடனும் பணம் செலுத்தக் கூடிய ஒரு முறையின் தேவை மிகவும் முக்கியத்துவம் பெற்றுள்ளது. விடுமுறை கொண்டாட்டம், திருமண வைபவங்கள் மற்றும் அங்காடி வணிகம் (ஷாப்பிங்) ஆகியவற்றுக்காக அதிகளவில் இந்திய சுற்றுலாப் பயணிகள் இங்கு வருகை தருவதால், அவர்கள் தேவையான பணப் பரிவர்த்தனைகளை எளிதாகவும் பாதுகாப்பாகவும் செய்து கொள்ள வசதிகள் ஏற்படுத்திக் கொடுப்பது மிகவும் முக்கியமானதாகும்.
