2025ஆம் ஆண்டில் இலங்கையில் 409க்கும் மேற்பட்ட யானைகள் உயிரிழந்துள்ளதாக சுற்றுச்சூழல் ஆர்வலர் ஆனந்த திசாநாயக்க தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.
பத்தரமுல்லையில் ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமை (4) நடைபெற்ற ஊடக சந்திப்பின் போதே சுற்றுச்சூழல் ஆர்வலர் ஆனந்த திசாநாயக்க இதனை தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.
கடந்த 2024ஆம் ஆண்டில் இலங்கையில் 388க்கும் மேற்பட்ட யானைகள் உயிரிழந்துள்ளன.
2024ஆம் ஆண்டுடன் ஒப்பிடுகையில் 2025 ஆம் ஆண்டில் யானைகளின் உயிரிழப்பு அதிகரித்துள்ளது.
அதன்படி, 2025 ஆம் ஆண்டில் துப்பாக்கிச் சூட்டுக்க இலக்காகி 71 யானைகளும், மின்சாரம் தாக்கி 56 யானைகளும், ரயிலில் மோதி 46 யானைகளும், யானை வெடி உட்கொண்டு 48 யானைகளும் உயிரிழந்துள்ளன.
யானைகளை பாதுகாப்பதற்கு விசேட நடவடிக்கைகளை மேற்கொள்ளுமாறு சுற்றுச்சூழல் ஆர்வலர் ஆனந்த திசாநாயக்க வனஜீவராசிகள் பாதுகாப்பு திணைக்கள அதிகாரிகளிடம் கேட்டுக்கொண்டுள்ளார்.
