“Every Child Can” – CAL Children Triumph at Iron Kids Colombo 2026

As Child Action Lanka (CAL) marks its 20th Anniversary under the theme “Every Child Can,” 35 children from CAL centres across Sri Lanka brought those words vividly to life at the Iron Kids Colombo 2026.

Competing against participants from across the country, CAL’s young athletes delivered an extraordinary overall sweep, securing places from 1st through 7th. Yet their achievement is remarkable not only for the medals won, but for the journey that carried them to the starting line.

Many of these children come from economically disadvantaged communities where even basic sporting equipment is considered a luxury. For some, owning a proper pair of running shoes was beyond their family’s means. Incredibly, several competed barefoot including the child who secured first place. What they lacked in resources, however, they made up for in resilience.

Despite financial hardships and limited access to facilities, the young athletes trained with discipline and determination. Each practice session reflected focus and grit; each coordinated effort demonstrated commitment beyond their years.  Under the dedicated guidance and mentorship of CAL’s staff, the selected team prepared rigorously, proving that structured support and consistent encouragement can unlock extraordinary potential.

Their success challenges the assumption that economic limitations define ability. Instead, it underscores a deeper trust: talent, perseverance, and excellence exist in every community. When children are given opportunity, guidance, and belief, they rise, often beyond expectation.

The 20th Anniversary theme, “Every Child Can,” is therefore more than a celebratory slogan. It is a conviction that every child can reach their full potential and make their mark on the world when provided equal opportunity, access to resources, and at least one person who believes in them.

At Iron Kids Colombo 2026, these 35 children proved precisely that.

Their triumph is not merely a sporting milestone. It is a powerful reminder that investing in children yields more than participation, it produces excellence, inspiration, and a redefinition of what is possible.
