SLIC General and SLIC Life lends hand to flood-affected communitieswith islandwide program

Sri Lanka Insurance General (SLICGL) and Sri Lanka Insurance Life Limited (SLICLL) stepped forward with compassion and commitment, launching an islandwide program to support communities devastated by the recent floods.

SLICGL and SLICLL mobilized regional teams to restore schools, places of worship, businesses, and households, also addressing urgent safety concerns in affected areas.  The main objectives of the program were to restore cleanliness and safety in flood-affected premises, support affected communities with manpower, provide cleaning supplies, and safety guidance and ensure volunteer safety in an environment with structural hazards, electrical risks, and water-borne diseases.

The program highlights the company’s enduring promise to stand with the people of Sri Lanka, as an insurer, and as a trusted partner in rebuilding lives and strengthening resilience in the nation.

The program covered 18 districts, with major efforts concentrated in Colombo, Gampaha, Badulla, and Kurunegala. Volunteer groups, 50 from each region, representing SLIC General and SLIC Life companies, were led by regional managers to provide coordinated, safe, and effective action. In total, teams from 16 SLICGL Regions and 15 SLICLI Regions joined hands, with Southern 2 regions combining their efforts in Badulla’s Goradiyawaka. 

Schools were cleaned and rehabilitated, assisting children to return to classrooms and resume their education. Temples and churches were restored, allowing communities to reconnect with their places of worship and cultural heritage. Business premises were rehabilitated, helping owners restart livelihoods and rebuild local economies. Households were disinfected and cleaned, giving families a safe environment to restart their daily lives. 

Sri Lanka Insurance General and Sri Lanka Insurance Life volunteers also tackled structural hazards and health risks, ensuring safety in environments threatened by electrical dangers and water‑borne diseases. In Badulla, Southern 2 regional teams restored flood‑affected irrigation canals and constructed a temporary sandbag retaining wall to prevent further erosion. In Uva, the Life Regional team went a step further by building a new kitchen for a flood‑affected family, symbolizing renewal and resilience. 

The program engaged in physical restoration but also in restoring dignity and hope. Donating supplies, offering manpower, and guiding communities on safety, SLICGL and SLICLL teams demonstrated insurance is more than protection. It is also a promise to walk with fellow citizens during the most difficult moments. 

SLICGL’s and SLICLL’s CSR program was a shared responsibility to help communities rise above adversity and became a beacon of hope all affected to recover, rebuild, and move forward together.
