இன்று (13) உலக சிறுநீரக தினமாகும் இந்த ஆண்டுக்கான கருப்பொருளாக ‘உங்கள் சிறுநீரகங்கள் சரியாக உள்ளதா? – முன்கூட்டியே கண்டறிதல், சிறுநீரக ஆரோக்கியத்தைப் பாதுகாத்தல்’.என அறிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. இலங்கையின் சனத்தொகையில் சுமார் 10% பேர் சிறுநீரகம் தொடர்பான நோய்களால் பாதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளதாக வைத்தியர்கள் குறிப்பிடுகின்றனர். மேலும், 2020 இல் நடத்தப்பட்ட ஒரு ஆய்வில் 164,000 பேர் நாள்பட்ட சிறுநீரக நோயால் (CKD) பாதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளனர் என்று தெரியவந்துள்ளது.
