WHAT’S ON AT THE GEOFFREY BAWA TRUST IN SEPTEMBER
COLOMBO, September 11th, 2025: Programming for the Geoffrey Bawa Trust’s current Ways of Knowing exhibition is now in full swing. September is packed with the Trust’s regular events, including the monthly curatorial exhibition tour, as well as some exciting new offerings, such as a guided park walk and poetry open mic night. The Trust is also excited to be starting a new series of children’s events.
On September 18 at 6:30 pm, Director of Curatorial Affairs, Thilini Perera, will be conducting an after-hours tour of the Ways of Knowing exhibition. With a background in graphic design, Perera’s tour will look at the current exhibition through a visual and design lens. On view through February 2026, Ways of Knowing uses different sensory experiences and media, including virtual reality, film, textiles, oral traditions, maps, seeds, and our own bodies, to examine the different forms knowledge can take.
Curator of Living Collections, Soham Kacker, will be leading an evening stroll and conversation through Viharamadevi Park on September 13 from 5:00 – 6:30 pm. Throughout the walk, Soham will introduce participants to the botanical, historical, and cultural stories of many of the species at home in the Park.
On September 19 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, the Bawa Space will hold its first poetry night. Co-hosted with the Island Poetry Exchange, this promises to be an evening of poetry, lyrical music, and flash fiction inspired by how humans interact with the natural world, and what nature can teach us about ourselves.
As part of the new children’s programming at the Bawa Space, the Trust is hosting two kid-friendly events in September.
Young children (3-6 years) are invited to join the first Saturday Story Club on September 13 from 11:30 am – 12:00 pm, to listen to stories about art, architecture, and the environment. A short craft activity will follow this in the exhibition space.
On September 27 at 10:30 am, kids (5-10 years) can join a tour and treasure hunt through the Ways of Knowing exhibition. Participants will hide treasure, make maps, and maybe even discover the answers to some of life’s big questions, such as: how do we know what we know?
