நாட்டில் தெருநாய்கடி எண்ணிக்கை அதிகரித்து வருவதாகவும் தெருநாய்களின் எண்ணிக்கையில் குறிப்பிடத்தக்க அதிகரிப்பு இருப்பதாகவும் தேசிய விலங்கு நல நிறுவனம் தெரிவித்துள்ளது.
இதன்படி நாட்டில் ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் 250,000 க்கும் மேற்பட்ட நாய்கடி சம்பவங்கள் பதிவாகின்றன என தேசிய விலங்கு நல நிறுவன நிர்வாகக் குழு உறுப்பினர் சம்பா பெர்னாண்டோ தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.
இதேவேளை, இலங்கையில் இரண்டு முதல் மூன்று மில்லியன் தெரு நாய்கள் இருப்பதாக விலங்கு நல நிறுவன நிர்வாகக் குழுவின் மற்றுமொரு உறுப்பினர் கிஹான் தினுஷ்கா தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.
தெரு நாய்களின் எண்ணிக்கை அதிகரித்து வருவதால், மோட்டார் சைக்கிள்கள் மற்றும் முச்சக்கர வண்டிகள் விபத்துக்குள்ளாகும் சம்பவங்கள் அதிகரித்துள்ளதோடு நாய் கடித்தால் ஏற்படும் பாதிப்புகளும், வெறிநாய்க்கடி நோய் பரவலும் அதிகரித்துள்ளன.
அந்த விடயம் தொடர்பில் கவனம் செலுத்தி நிவர்த்தி செய்யவும், நிபுணர்களின் வழிகாட்டுதலைப் பெறவும், பயனுள்ள நடவடிக்கைகளைச் செயல்படுத்தவும் தேசிய விலங்கு நல நிறுவனம் அரசாங்கத்திடம் கோரிக்கை விடுத்துள்ளது.
